Geneva Communique on Syrian Political Transition May Be Updated After Talks
12:39 GMT 05.05.2015 (Updated: 20:09 GMT 19.10.2022) The 2012 roadmap for Syrian political transition may be "optimized" after the upcoming Geneva talks on Syrian reconciliation, UN Deputy Special Envoy for Syria Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy said Tuesday.
GENEVA (Sputnik) – The consultations on Syria began on Monday behind closed doors at the UN headquarters in Geneva and are expected to last for five-six weeks.
"The word 'changes' is not ours. We don't use it. Mr. De Mistura spoke about the optimization."
Syria has been in the state of civil war since 2011, with government forces fighting numerous militant groups in the country. The warring sides have met at UN-backed Geneva conferences before but failed to agree on ceasing the violence.
Moscow hosted two rounds of intra-Syrian talks in January and April. During the second round of talks the sides agreed on a 10-point agenda, defining a negotiating framework for the talks on the Syrian crisis settlement.
During the talks in Geneva, Moscow is represented by Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations Alexei Borodavkin.
