The UK Occupy Democracy movement slams authorities for "massively over-reacting" to activists putting up a tent in London's Parliament Square.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The UK Occupy Democracy movement slammed authorities for "massively over-reacting" to activists putting up a tent in London's Parliament Square, and arresting several demonstrators, the movement said in a statement Monday.

Earlier in the day, three protesters were arrested for being inside a tent during the Occupy Democracy rally. Erection of tents on Parliament Square for protest actions is outlawed.

The group stated that the police "massively over-reacted" after around 50 policemen surrounded the tent, and claimed that at least ten members of the law enforcement were involved in the arrest of each person.

"The response of the authorities clearly shows they really don't like effective protests like occupy and they really don't want a peaceful pro-democracy movement kicking off in this country. Which is ironic seeing as we are in the middle of a general election," one of the activists said, as quoted by Occupy Democracy.

Monday marks the fourth consecutive day of the Occupy Democracy campaign, which is set to continue until May 10. The activists are demanding democracy free from corporate control and better environmental policies.

Aside from London, the Occupy Democracy campaigns are taking place in several other UK cities, including Liverpool, Brighton and Leicester.
