Over 400 people gathered outside city hall in Varna on Saturday to protest against the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The participants chanted anti-war slogans and protested against the sanctions against Russia, which they said were destroying the city’s tourism business and hampering the planned construction of the South Stream pipeline to pump Russian natural gas to Europe under the Black Sea.
The rally was organized by the Bulgarian Socialist Party.
A similar protest was held on February 10 outside the presidential palace in the capital Sofia where the participants demanded an end to the country’s military support for the Ukrainian armed forces and the government’s anti-Russian policy.
On Friday it was reported that the issue of recognizing the results of Crimea's referendum on reunification with Russia may be raised in the Bulgaria's parliament.
Kiev authorities launched a military operation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in mid-April, 2014, in response to local residents' refusal to recognize the new coup-installed government.
