Ban Ki-moon Nominates Seven Experts to Review UN Peacebuilding Architecture

Seven experts were named by UN Secretary General to conduct a review on the UN's peacebuilding architecture.

UNITED NATIONS, January 23 (Sputnik) – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon named seven experts to conduct a review on the UN's peacebuilding architecture as mandated by the UN General Assembly and UN Security Council.

Nationals of Pakistan, India, Nigeria, Mauritania, France, Guatemala and Uganda have been nominated by Ban as members of Advisory Group of Experts Thursday.

"In accordance with the Terms of Reference endorsed by the General Assembly and the Security Council, the Advisory Group of Experts will undertake country studies in Burundi, Central African Republic, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Timor-Leste; will conduct a policy and institutional review of the peacebuilding architecture; and will develop findings and recommendations based on this work," the UN said.

According to the UN, the Advisory Group of Experts will submit a report to the General Assembly and the Security Council for consideration.

On December 15, the UN Secretary General was asked to nominate up to seven experts to form the Advisory Group by the Presidents of the General Assembly and the Security Council
