MOSCOW, December 17 (Sputnik) – Jeb Bush, the former governor of Florida, has announced via Facebook that he is considering participating in the 2016 presidential race.

In a post published on Tuesday, Jeb Bush said he "decided to actively explore the possibility of running for president" following conversations with his family about the future of the US.

"Like many of you, our family was blessed with the opportunity to gather together over the recent Thanksgiving holiday. … We shared good food and watched a whole lot of football. We also talked about the future of our nation. As a result of these conversations and thoughtful consideration of the kind of strong leadership I think America needs, I have decided to actively explore the possibility of running for President of the United States," Bush stated.

Jeb Bush, whose father and brother both served as US presidents, also announced that he plans to establish a political action committee (PAC) aimed at supporting leaders, ideas and policies that "will expand opportunity and prosperity for all Americans." The Leadership PAC will enable Bush to discuss with Americans the most critical challenges facing the US.

Jeb Bush added that in the coming months he intends to travel across the US "to have a conversation about restoring the promise of America."

Jeb Bush is a leading candidate among his fellow Republicans for the party’s nomination in 2016, according to recent polls. For instance, a McClatchy-Marist poll, released Monday, has placed Mitt Romney, a former GOP nominee, and Jeb Bush at the top ahead of other GOP presidential candidates including Chris Christie, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and Rick Perry. Romney received 19 percent of the vote, with Bush receiving 14 percent.
