MOSCOW, November 5 (RIA Novosti) — Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko suggested in a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State John Kerry that negotiations on the eastern crisis be continued on the ministerial level, Poroshenko's press service said early Wednesday.
Poroshenko assured Kerry of Kiev's commitment to the peace process in eastern Ukraine in line with the Minsk protocol. "Peter Poroshenko also suggested reviving the Geneva format of dialogue on a peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbas at the level of foreign affairs ministers," the press release said.
The US foreign policy chief expressed his support of the Ukrainian government and the president's action in Donbas, which comprises parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. He also congratulated Poroshenko on the parliamentary elections and praised the gas deal between Kiev, Moscow and Brussels.
Top diplomats from Russia, the United States, the European Union and Ukraine met in Geneva on April 17 to devise roadmap, which called for an end to the violence in the region, amnesty for all those involved in the fighting and a dialogue between the state authorities and independence supporters.
