Press attache of the US Embassy in Moscow William Stevens told that US citizens in Russia could vote via mail and the internet.

MOSCOW, November 4 (RIA Novosti) — US citizens in Russia are voting in the midterm Congress elections via mail and the internet, the press attache of the US Embassy in Moscow William Stevens told RIA Novosti Tuesday.

“We do not have a polling station at the embassy. This does not occur in American embassies. We call this absentee voting. When a person is not in their home country, he should register to vote in the state he comes from via internet or mail. All states have their own laws,” Stevens said.

On Tuesday, the United States is voting for candidates who will fill the 435 seats in the House of Representatives, as well as 36 state governors. An additional 146 popular votes will also be conducted at state level on various substantive issues.

According to the information on the embassy’s website in Moscow, the voter receives a ballot application 45 days prior to the elections. The US citizen votes and sends the form back to the United States either by mail, fax or internet as per the regulations of the state they come from. US citizens can also use courier services or send it through the American embassy.

All the states permit absentee voting with no specified reason for doing so required from the voter. In three states — Oregon, Washington and Colorado — there are no polling stations and all voting is done only via mail.
