The National Bank of Ukraine has forbidden collecting deposits and granting loans in rubles.

KIEV, November 4 (RIA Novosti) —The National Bank of Ukraine has banned collecting deposits and granting loans in Russian rubles throughout the country, UNIAN news agency reported Tuesday.

According to UNIAN, Ukraine's National Bank has also banned transfers of Russian rubles across the border with Crimea, excluding private individuals bringing sums 10,000 hryvnia (about $770) or less over the border for personal needs.

In order to support the hryvnia that has been trading near record lows, in September Ukraine's National bank has banned the withdrawal of foreign currency from ATMs and limited purchasing currencies in cash to 15,000 hryvnias ($1153) a day.

Torn by internal conflict in its southeastern regions, Ukraine is experiencing a severe economic crisis. The country's National Bank has estimated that inflation in 2014 will reach 17 percent and the GDP will drop by 7 percent.
