MOSCOW, May 14 (RIA Novosti) – The Russian Interior Ministry will purchase special anti-surveillance equipment worth more than 272 million rubles ($8 million) to prevent data leaks, a ministry spokesman said Wednesday.
"This is a planned purchase, the Interior Ministry acquires such equipment annually as part of the state defense order," Andrey Pilipchuk said, adding that the equipment is intended for secure facilities.
The equipment will be used to protect voice information in the facilities, to prevent data interception through subscriber lines and avoid data leakage in the form of electrical signals through electric communication networks and utility lines, according to the Russian government’s purchasing website.
"There are secure facilities, which are intended for internal use of the Interior Ministry. There are also regulators who are telling ... how we should equip and check these facilities. That is what we’re buying this equipment for," Pilipchuk said.
In addition, the kit with the supplied equipment shall include devices for tracking "bugs," tools to extract and analyze them, as well as training equipment.
The equipment is to be delivered before November 1. Applications for participation in the tender can be submitted until May 29 and an electronic auction is to be held June 9. The contract price exceeds 272 million rubles.
