U.S. President Barack Obama visited the Demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea, and looked at the North Korean land from the binocular, CBS News said on Sunday.

Obama arrived in South Korea for the second two-day nuclear security summit that opens in Seoul on Monday to highlight North Korea’s nuclear issue. During his visit, he will also meet with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev, Chinese leader Hu Jintao and Pakistani Premier Yousaf Raza Gilani.

In the morning, Obama went to greet the 28,000 U.S. military deployed at a UN military post in Bonifas 400 meters south of the 4-kilometer demilitarized zone. Then he went on to the Panmunjom post and walked just 100 yards from the demarcation line.

The video with Obama walking so close to the North Korean territory was broadcast all over the world.

The demilitarized zone divides the Korean peninsula into the South and the North. The two countries signed a truce in 1953 and are still formally at war.
