An off-duty policeman in Ukraine’s northwestern Zhitomir region fired warning shots in order to break up a brawl at a restaurant on March 5, the Zhitomir.info news web site reported on Tuesday.
The melee, between two groups of men and women - about 20 people in all - was captured by surveillance cameras installed in the restaurant, which is located in the town of Berdichev.
The policeman, who was dining in the restaurant with his wife, fired a number of rounds from his airgun into the floor. A ricochet from one of the shots injured a young woman celebrating her 18th birthday, Zhitomir.info quoted local police as saying.
The police are examining the case, Zhitomir.info reported.
