In mid-September the woman reported her son as missing, saying the boy went for a walk through a forest to meet his grandmother and never came back, the popular tabloid Komsomolskaya Pravda reported. However, when investigators asked for a photo of the boy, the woman was unable to find one.
A large-scale search for the boy was launched, but gave no results.
Meanwhile, the boy's stepfather confessed to the police that he had helped the woman to hide her son's body. Further investigation revealed that she had repeatedly complained to her neighbors and relatives that she was fed up with her son, who got in the way of her private life in their one-room apartment.
Neighbors also said she told them her son was not doing well at school and she wanted to give birth to a "better" child.
Investigators established that the woman had taken her son for a walk in the forest and garroted him with a piece of rope. She covered the corpse with tree branches and fled. But the woman still protested her innocence.
Only when the body was found, and a mobile phone picture was sent to the office questioning the woman, did she finally confess to the crime.
Psychiatric examination has established that the woman was mentally fit to stand trial.
